I too am inclined to think that a change in behavior is needed.  Your
comment on how cp behaves further reinforces this, so unless someone has
a good reason why this should remain the same, I'll check in a change.

I got it via the mailing list, so I don't know why you didn't.  Perhaps
you have a filter that eliminates duplicates (based on Message-ID)?
