Wayne, I was using:
rh8 & rsync-2.5.5-1.i386.rpm I upgraded to: rsync-2.6.6-1.0.rh9.rf.i386.rpm (on RH8) and added the "-i" switch and it worked! - only /etc/crontab was backed up (which is correct). Maybe there was a problem with the older version that behaved differently on /etc compared to /root for some odd reason? Many thanks, Phil.
