Ahhh! That makes sense.

However, how do you then do the same thing from the client end? I guess
you can't? There's no "--dont-compress" option by the looks of it.

Actually I see now someone earlier commenting about ZLIB stuff. Same
thing I suppose. So rsync client will attempt to compressed already
compressed data...
