I downloaded the client and it wont allow you to enter something that does
not have the "rsync.net" as a substring.

Reading the page linked, it appears that the remote server is a SETTING:

So, yeah, they are pushing rsync.net, but that, and the screenshot,  
seem to show you can set anything in there as the remote server.
