Hi Mike,
Thanks for your reply. Your setup sounds a lot like mine.
I'm also doing an rsync at boot time, using a 10 meg Linux partition
based on tomsrtbt. One thing you might want to look at: the Linux
system reboots into Windows by using 'lilo -R win95'. The '-R'
switch sets a one-time flag for lilo that will automatically be
cleared after the next reboot, so I don't have to do anything in
Windows to make Linux boot next time. Otherwise, something might
screw up Windows in such a way that the machine wouldn't boot into
linux again. The main thing I don't like about this part of the
system is that I have to do a complete reboot (with memory check,
etc.) to get into Windows. I wish there were a 'loadwin' for Linux,
like loadlin for DOS.
The rsync at boot time is acceptably fast. I think the
slowness I see with the Win32 version I use in Windows at login time
is probably something specific to Cygwin. Maybe it's a buffer size issue.
Your DOS resync program sounds interesting. Does it
have any problems with long files names or long paths? I'd like to
take a look at it.
Thanks,
Bryan
