OK understood. (and thanks for the quick response BTW!) On a slightly different tack, I see there are lot's of good options for escaping control characters but I'd like to escape arbitrary characters. For example the "=" character is usually perfectly normal but the application I am sending to requires that it be represented as "\=". Is there any way to do this?
