I agree the repo might not be the best location. I could easily generate a series of .tar.gz for each one. That is certainly an option. Then they could just be posted for download?

However, some folks may have a really bad time generating the doc. So providing readily accessible formats definitely is a plus. I am just not sure if the best place is inside the repository -- or actually a "doc release" the goes alongside the code release (and with maintainer head on, I think we need to coordinate that in any case -- but that's not a hard vote). So I am undecided what's the best way to achive it, but I think generated output should be readily available.
