It would be great to have streamline build process with spec for rpmbuild
and perhaps rhel6/rhel7 to include v8 rsyslog in an update os release, even

It's being worked on. There seem to be some subtle issues with
packaging for some components.
I have also today identified a problem with a third-party library we
use and am thinking to roll a replacement directly within the package
build process.
As a side-note, we usually try to keep the package build process in
line with the official source releases, but cannot guarantee that.
Often, we had more package releases, for things like the third-party
lib I just mentioned.
I am also working to package rsyslog v8.15 for Fedora today, so perhaps
we
could collaborate on what changes are needed?
That would be great! Unfortunately, I do not have details on where
Florian is working on and he has left the office. But we can look into
it tomorrow.
As a side-note, we are always looking for team members for the
packaging project. We are far from experts in that area and good know
how really helps ;)
The issue I have identified todo is a race bug in json-c, which can
affect rsyslog in some situations and even lead to segfaults. I have
forked json-c for various reasons a couple of weeks ago and have a
patched this version (libfastjson) today. We consider packaging the
build with libfastjson rather than json-c (especially given the fact
that json-c releases every 18 month or so).
