The gay ambassador that you are thinking of is the current ambassador to Canada.  Maybe Fob would like a job as his administrative assistant.

Scott, credit for loosening up the GOP homophobia should be given 100% to Bush, and 0% to old school GOP party brass.  Bush's greatest strength in my opinion is his ability to extend and unite; he does very little IMO to turn away any social group that happens to agree with him on many or most issues.  In other words, if you like lower taxes he doesn't care who you sleep with at night or whether you are pro-choice/pro-life..

This reminds me:  The best story I have ever heard about Bush's ability to get two parties to agree and pass legislation happened when he was Governor of Texas.

He was trying to get something big (maybe the budget) through the Texas State Legislature and the Democrats had maintained a filibuster for a long time.

Bush marches down to the State Capital in Austin and comes in and walks up to the podium and says to the Democrat who held the floor "If I am going to get screwed I am at least going to get a kiss" and he preceded to kiss the stunned Democrat on the lips.  He didn't use the word 'screwed' either.

Lord. Why bring that name up? Heck, they'll run him a third time and win again......can't get rid of 'em. Voters can't take him but 4 years at a time.   No, it is the ambassador to some country where Colin Powell visited recently and caused a stink in the press by acknowldging the fellow's "partner" at some state function.  Fob probably would be a good ambassador to Canada, since he moved his manufacturing business there from Alabama years ago.

Are you talking about Fob James being appointed ambassador to Afghanistan?
