By MIKE GRIFFITH January 16, 2004 Gallion said on a Birmingham radio show that Fulmer told a "pack of lies’’ in his testimony to the NCAA regarding the investigation into violations that occurred at the University of Alabama. Fulmer wouldn’t comment on what he told the NCAA. "This relates to an ongoing federal investigation in Memphis,’’ Fulmer said. "It’s not appropriate to discuss it.’’ According to Gallion, Fulmer was one of three secret witnesses who provided damning testimony in the NCAA’s case against Alabama. The Tide was placed on five years’ probation, which included the loss of 21 scholarships and a two-year bowl ban. Gallion said he has copies of documentation in which Fulmer told the NCAA that former Tide running back Shaun Alexander received improper benefits and that a former Alabama assistant coach carried on an affair with a recruit’s mother. The documentation reportedly was filed Thursday in the U.S. District Court in Memphis in conjunction with a federal investigation of Alabama booster Logan Young. Young was accused of paying $150,000 to lure Memphis defensive line prospect Albert Means to Alabama. He has pleaded innocent to charges of conspiracy, crossing state lines to commit racketeering and arranging bank withdrawals to cover up a crime. Gallion, who represents Ronnie Cottrell and Ivy Williams in various suits involving their dismissal from the Tide’s football staff in 2000, said there is more to come in his crusade against Fulmer’s "hypocrisy.’’ "This is the first missile, if you want to call it that,’’ Gallion said. "We hope to put a lot more together.’’ Gallion said the court documents relate to an eight-hour meeting in Chattanooga between Alabama Internet recruiting analyst Tom Culpepper, Fulmer and Fulmer’s attorney in August 2000. Gallion said portions of the meeting were recorded on tape. According to Gallion, Fulmer fostered a relationship with Culpepper while coaching in the Hula Bowl all-star game in 2000. Culpepper also provided testimony to the NCAA against Alabama. Copyright 2004, KnoxNews.
