Ron Zook's short job search ended Monday when he accepted the coaching job at Illinois, ESPN.com's Jim Donnan reports.

Zook, who was fired by Florida during the season but stayed on to post a 7-4 record, was also approached by Mississippi, but the Rebels are believed to prefer Louisville's Bobby Petrino.

Zook was expected to interview with Mississippi on Monday but decided to take the Illinois job.

He still has not decided whether to coach the Gators in the Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl, according to the Gainesville (Fla.) Sun, though there has been strong speculation that he won't be on Floridas' sideline for the Dec. 31 game.
