Hope your right, Sleffie. They played well in tonight's 2nd half. We'll see how well they do against the piggies in Arkie Tuesday night.

TUSCALOOSA -- Kennedy Winston scored 15 of his game high 21 points in the second half and spurred a 17-0 second half run that pushed the University of Alabama men’s basketball team to its first Southeastern Conference victory of the season Saturday night over LSU in Coleman Coliseum. The Prichard native also collected his 1,000 career point in the contest becoming the 37th UA player to eclipse the mark.

The victory improved the No. 19 (AP) Crimson Tide to 11-3 for the season, 1-1 in the SEC. LSU dropped to 6-5, 0-1 in the SEC.

The game was nip and tuck through the first half with the Tide taking a one point advantage to the locker-room. The second half opened in the same fashion with both teams trading the lead six times through the first four minutes.

However, with the Tide leading 43-42, Earnest Shelton hit a lay-up that started a 17-0 Alabama run, during which Winston scored eight points, that gave the Tide an insurmountable 18-point lead over the Tigers with 8:14 remaining in the game.

LSU cut the lead back to eight with just under four minutes to play on a three pointer from Darrel Mitchell but that would be the last shot the Tigers would make from the field.

In addition to Winston’s 21-point effort, Shelton added 19 for the Tide and Ronald Steele tied his career high with 14 points. Chuck Davis scored 10 points and both he and Jermareo Davidson grabbed a game-high eight rebounds.

Glen Davis led LSU with 13 points. Mitchell and Antonio Hudson scored 11 apiece and Brandon Bass added 10 for the Tigers.

Alabama will return to action Wednesday night, traveling to Fayetteville, Arkansas to take on the Razorbacks. Tip-off for the contest is set for 8:00 p.m. The game will be televised by ESPN and can be heard on the Crimson Tide Sports Network.
