Here's a way:

o format the flash with dos or freedos
o Modify minirtl to add the ide modules or combine all modules into 
        one rtl file (depending on IDE compatibility of flash device)
o Copy the minirtl files to the flash device.
o copy loadlin to the flash device
o create a loadlin config file based on syslinux.cfg
o place "loadlin @config.cfg" in the autoexec.bat file

Advantages:
o Don't have to worry about IDE compatibility 
o Don't have to worry about getting source to proprietry flash drivers
o Operates from RAM disk - no shutdown woes.

That's the way I do it anyway.
