Dear RTAI gurus,

Has anyone had much luck installing RTAI (either 24.1.4 or recent
CVS versions) Redhat 7.1?

I think my initial difficulties have been due to problems with the
gcc 2.96 that comes with RH7.1. However, even though I can compile
most of RTAI with kgcc (or the binary install of egcs-1.1.12 that
is on kernel.org), as soon as I load a single RTAI module the system
freezes completely, and has to be hard booted. However, running on
a single CPU system the examples I tried loaded and ran fine.

I have followed the instructions in the readme to the letter. Is it
possible that these are slightly out of date? I have tried both the
'copyto' and patch versions, and the normal and 'DS' make techniques.

Details:
Intel STL-2 dual CPU motherboard
Dual 1GHz PIIIs, 1GB RAM

Kernel: with config options as specified in the instructions.
Vanilla 2.4.3 with RTAI copyto
Vanilla 2.4.5 with RTAI patches

Compiler: tried both RH7.1 default (2.96) and egcs-1.1.12. RH7.1
caused build errors.

Is there any site which has RTAI binaries (ie a compiled kernel tree
and matching RTAI src tree) for SMP available to try?

I usually have no trouble patching and building new kernels. We have
been using the 2.4.x series with the low-latency patches and POSIX
soft realtime, but I would like to try out LXRT.

Thanks in advance,
Andrew
