Opinions vary. I have seen raports of problems with blocks over 64 MB. But I
was able to allocate more.

In general, you should be able to use all memory not used by the system. This
means leave about 10-20 MB for Linux, use the rest of physical RAM. Of course
if you start X windows you will need more memory for Linux.
