Good point! With Linux/lowlatency, it should be possible to do it all in 
user space - even under heavy system stress - provided the driver 
supports a usable buffering configuration. (I've tested a software RDC/AC 
motor servo regulator at 2 kHz with one frame in-one frame out buffering 
without any missed deadlines, so 30 or 60 Hz should be totally reliable.)
