I just joined the list and I'm going through the archives trying to
see if any of my initial questions are answered there, and I came
across an ancient question about controlling servos from linux.

For anyone still interested, Scott Edwards Electronics sells a small
board (about an inch square http://www.seetron.com/ssc.htm) with a
serial interface that'll controll up to 8 servos. It can daisy chain
with other boards to control up to (I think) 255 servos. The serial
protocol is trivial, and the board is (as I recall) under $50.

Hope this helps.
