I would also be interested in producing a `RTL-only' version,
so that you can optionally run rtl without linux on top of it 
(except for the initial module loading support; how much is 
really needed for this ??).

This way, 
-you can use the memory, previously used for the kernel proper, 
 for application use, or
-you can further reduce your memory needs, 
and
-rtl can start to compete with low-memory commercial RT O/S-es,
 some of which use only around 40 kB kernel memory. Such a
 rtl-only version would still offer the (optional) linux development 
 environment. This will be a real bonus, when rtl can also
 be ported to other processors (uclinux for example). I would
 like to work on both goals (rtl-only and uclinux port).
 As far as I know, several people have shown interest but the only
 work done so far is the merger of RT-Linux v1.3 with uClinux 990904
 by Bernard Kuhn.
