We've been considering a backport of V3 to the 2.2 kernels but haven't done
anything about it yet. The changes wouldn't be minor for PPC and x86
wouldn't be a small undertaking so we're not doing it just yet. If there
turns out to be need for it (such as a not-so-stable 2.4), we may do it
sooner.

We've been using gcc 2.7.2.3 for x86/alpha and egcs 2.95.2 for PPC.

} Is it possible to use RTL V3 with a 2.2 Kernel? I seem to recall
} that the documentation states that it requires 2.4 kernels, which are rather
} new (and scary).
}
} I am also interested in knowing which version of GCC I am supposed
} to use when compiling kernels. None of the current distributions seem to
} make any mention of this, but I seem to remember having heard something
} about this being important.
