I am working with this configuration and have had no problem so far:
Debian GNU/Linux 2.2 r5 (potato) ( http://www.debian.org/ )
linux-2.4.4.tar.gz ( http://kernel.org)
rtlinux-3.1.tar.gz ( http://www.fsmlabs.org)
I ran into a lot of compilation problem of my own modules when using
another configuration. I don't know wether or not the problems were
caused by me.....
