Straits Times 16 Sept 2002 New screening system to target errant foreign drivers KUALA LUMPUR - A RM2.9-million (S$1.4 million) computerised traffic-screening system will be set up at all entry points to Malaysia next January to crack down on errant motorists from Singapore, Thailand and Brunei. Road Transport Department director-general Mohamed Shahar Sidek said the system would first be set up at the Johor entry points at the Causeway and Second Link, to be followed by other places including Sabah and Sarawak. Advertisement Information on vehicles entering Malaysia would be recorded automatically in the computer and all traffic violations committed while they were in the country would also be keyed in, Berita Minggu Malaysia quoted him as saying yesterday. He said summons notices would be issued immediately for any traffic violation before motorists were allowed to leave the country. 'This will ensure fairness to the locals as drivers from foreign countries are subjected to the same consequences when they violate our laws.
