Ah! Didn't know that! :o)
But even if rt_loopback is loaded, this local ping will of course not involve the NIC in any way. Use an existing output route to that device instead, e.g. 192.168.1.255 (broadcast).
I'll try this in a second. Sending this e-mail first to make sure I don't lose the info because of a crash :)

Mmpf. This could actually be a more fundamental problem. What happens without rt_3c59x? Please also try the same with the loopback device loaded. Then do not load the so far unused modules tdma and rtmac. E.g., there will be no timer started without tdma being loaded.
