This one is really weird. One thing I noticed that it seems that Ruby does not honor the encoding directive in RegExps (or it handles them differently than strings), so I opened https://bugs.ruby-lang.org/issues/12034 And since the raindrops maintainer is Ruby committer, I hope he will notice (I put him on CC).
