It really does sound fairly trivial to solve. You're probably
suffering a dearth of answers (along with the many other noobie
questioners) in an unspoken attempt to get you to read the
documentation, search for someone who has asked a similar question,
or learn more about Javscript before diving full on into
Script.aculo.us. Or maybe the really smart people who frequent this
list are all on vacation. (I'm still here.. what does that say?)

Take a look here first:
http://wiki.script.aculo.us/scriptaculous/show/Sortable.create (note
the options that may be used)
http://wiki.script.aculo.us/scriptaculous/show/Draggable (more
options that may be used in your Sortable declaration)

... pay particular attention to the callbacks. Peek under the hood
to see what parameters they pass, and when.

For further enlightening reading, take a look at the SortableObserver
object in dragdrop.js
