Hi Mark, IE5.5 is no longer supported by Microsoft.
It's market-share is truly negligible and it's support for most things "web 2.0" rather poor. That's why Prototype does not officialy support it. Note that none of the other main JS frameworks support IE 5.5 as far as I know.
