Ronald, Could you try not setting the compiler compliance level of your eclipse project to 1.4 but leaving that to 5.0 and only setting the source compatibility level and the generated .class files compatibility to 1.4? The plugin needs a 5.0 compliant parser, but it can generate 1.4 compliant class files. The errors in the rules should then disappear.
