Rob, At this point, you'll need to modify the existing one in the Eclipse plugin and simply add your own one. Ideally, this would need to be transformed into an Eclipse extension point, so you can use that to register your own skin providers as part of a separate, additional plugin.
If you're serious about adding your own skin provider, I can definitely help you out on how to do this.
