Okay, took me a while to extract the code and just included the minimal. I know how to reproduce this bug (or something I have done wrong) now. Take a look at testing 2 and 3. Those are where I cannot list the global but the global is set in fact. Now we can continue trying to answer my question and stop guessing or pre-assuming you knew the reason already :P
