Forking in a daemon is only useful as a way to signal when the service
is ready. A socket-activated daemon would be the modern way of doing it,
as it will be faster and far easier to do correctly. If it's not a
service that other programs will depend on or that will receive
connections, then there's not really a reason to do either.
