This will no longer be necessary in S-nail v14.7, which i plan to
release next saturday (already available in the [master] branch,
too).
To come back to your question from last march: in the meanwhile
S-nail has gained some features which may be of interest for you,
most noticeably the nail command line editor (NCL), but GNU
readline support is optionally available. (And i personally also
couldn't live anymore without the NCL HOME/END/PREVPAGE/NEXTPAGE
scrolling shortcuts.) There are rather large improvements in
memory usage, though we are far from where we hopefully end.
Many internal technical changes, but again...
In the end: if you want to try it out, i think v14.7 could be
worth a try; when changing over from Heirloom re-reading the
manual should be considered, especially in respect to character
sets usage ("Character sets", `~@' tilde escape), and we don't
support the Heirloom junk handling, but hook SpamAssassin(1)
(though that could be better). And the very new *v15-compat* URL
and credential handling of v14.7 is a real improvement. (And now
that i see that we have arabic-speaking users i think we'll have
to do some more quick-fixing on multibyte safety that are yet in
TODO, also for v14.7.)
I'm rather sad to say that there is still so much to do, but i'm
looking forward to get it done.
