For example, here in Darmstadt there is a turkish Bakery which is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week (24/7 in american iirc) and that is a large family _and_ they do it by hand _and_ they use a woodstove _and_ the bread is cheap - but it is just wonderful. Who knows how they can afford that, there are no other such bakeries i know of no more, they all have vanished and integrated into greater companies, especially back in the nineties the price fight fought by large companies like Kamps etc. took them all. There is not one single-shop family-tradition-style bakery left that i know of. Sure it's a world-wide phenomenon, take Italian clothes, shoes or motorcycles, Basque espadrilles etc. Handsewn copybooks. Etc. Small and passionate with something to be prowd of, which is unfortunately not hip these days. But who cares? To come back to that wonderful (and cheap) handmade woodstove bread -- add some organic oil from Crete, a good cheese and a good tomato (this is a real hard one here). I wouldn't ask for more. (But granted, the most subtle taste i've ever tasted was a sauce in a really, really restaurant near Bordaux. Quite funny, i told the man of the house, who also was the cook, how fantastic that taste was, and he tapped onto his heart two times, saying "Bum Bum" (i can't speak french, which was already clear back then). Turning back to our table i said (in German), "it is obvious that Germans were attendant here! Just add 'Hands up' and 'Standstill! Or i shoot!' and it is possible to have a fluent conversation with the locals". But we did leave as friends nonetheless.) |And BTW, good luck for the world cup of tea... Oh tea! I love tea! Not to be misunderstood -- i am truly a fan of the German football team, i was raised with the books of Fritz Walter and have read those of Günther Netzer and even Franz Beckenbauer when i was a boy. I love how Borussia Mönchengladbach plays football (again). Young horses alike. We've had good man which i truly supported from the bottom of my heart, like Fritz Walter, Berti Vogts, Jürgen Kohler, Bernd Schneider, Torsten Frings. I don't think that players like Thomas Müller or Sebastian Schweinsteiger have the right personality to play in a national team, Germans on top of that. To give the names that i dislike the most. So in respect to those i'm more with Maradona's "I'm afraid of the Germans" at the very moment. But we've had a fantastic match in 1982, i've seen it on TV. In fact i often refer to this match, because it was such an unbelievable atmosphere, often told are the thirteen spectator heart attacks! And a french player met a german goalkeeper..
