Hi Bill,
After doing maybe 50 DCC installs in all kinds of engines, I have
come to the conclusion that there are several good ways to do wiring,
but none are really great ways! I have also found out that a sturdy
connection is also a large one and can be larger than the decoder
itself. That being said, Soundtraxx sells plug and sockets for
individual wires (PFM used to make a similar product that might still be
available). For multiple wires i.e. dual headlites and number boards in
the same area, I make my own from multi pin connectors from electronic
surplus outlets. These plugs will line up with NMRA DCC sockets and can
be cut to nearly any amount of pins. There are also several types of
commercial mini plugs that my hobby shop sells, some are better than
others. The big problem is keeping the wires from looking like a birds
nest and still keep the wires flexible and long enough to separate the
shell from the chassis--not always easy.
