modeling era determined
- primary & secondary RR to model determined
- the type and approximate number of trains I want to run (I am into
operations so this is an important consideration)
- the geographic area (though I am still not 100% sure here
these 3 things are the first step i think in determining the
equipment and other things your gong to want....passing sideing
length is extremly important to running the train lenghts you want...
myself im working on a 18" wide shelf twice around 16x16' area
5% grade to summit passing sideing with a lower shelf stageing
yards for both ends of the main line over the hill setting well
pac nw like but its not earth a place called new washington and
mostly parts and supplies one way to the foundrys and finished
military goods the other...i dont expect most peopleto understand
the setting unless their a fan of jerry Pournell and the falkenberg
novels...i fully ecpect developing planets to use lots of rail
transport its to effective at what it does nothig else will haul
the equivelent of 3 navy destroyer across land from point a to point
b...at this current time anyway and railroads are Low tech..not
high tech somehting that a developing planet might not be able to
fix...you think shipping and handeling charges are bad here on
earth..try shipping delicate parts lightyears or some screwy widget
thingy that you HAVE to have tomake it work but every time it
breaks you ahve to wait a year for a part...and see how fast somone
reverts to low tech solution.
