Gentlemen:
I'm getting caught up. I'm up to January 11th!

No one has mentioned modern day usage of Mikados and Consolidations.

The Valley Railroad, in Essex Connecticut, is running two coal powered
steamers in daily tourist operation. In the 1980s when I was there they
were alternated, by week. They are still running today.
If they have concluded the passenger runs for the day and need to
move something in the yard, they don't fire up a diesel, they use the
currently active steamer. They had one on-line customer in the late
1980s but Dicken's witch hazel hadn't received a car in years. But it
could happen! The DOD (Army) used to train on the VRR. So you had
modern DOD equipment being switched by vintage steam.

40 is a Mikado. (Lionel production)
97 is a Consolidation. (SHS production)

Both of these will make excellent stand-ins for the real locomotives.
