Has anybody added one of these to an S scale trailer . . . . ? > > > > > > > ----------Response--------- Yes, this is a reefer. The Oddballs drawing shows a semi-trailer with a nose-mounted reefer unit. It shouldn't be too hard to add one to an AM semi-trailer. Step one is buy nose-mounting reefer unit For this, see the Whitebear parts list at http://store.yahoo.com/whitebearstudios/cupafor1sc.html . The ThermoKing reefer unit is about 3/4 of the way down. Don't forget to get a fuel tank for it. You never see one of those reefer units on a semi without a fuel tank somewhere, usually underslung. There's a lot of other neat stuff on this parts page, most of which is 1/64 scale. There's even a PHD (post hole digger).
For whatever it's worth, a few years back American Models was contemplating selling its 40 foot trailers on its 43 ft flat cars. They went as far as to print a flyer with a picture of a trailer on a flat car. It had a nose-mounted reefer unit. I asked Ron about that. He instructed me to disregard the reefer unit, that was not contemplated. But with an AM undec reefer body, Oddballs decals, and a Whitebear reefer unit, we can do it. This Rock Island trailer will then work on an AM spine car or on an SHS TOFC flatcar (transfer the SHS 35 foot trailer to your BTS F-39 flat car).
