Larry and others EMD marketing made that claim but B&M's BL2s were delivered without them according to the builder photos and early in service photos. As already mentioned and refuted by others some have suggested that screen vs louver is the difference. But some MP and Monon BL2s were delivered with screening, which along with the lone BL1 was later changed to louvers. C&EI which had 2 BL2s and the BL1 said there was no difference between them. If there ever was a difference it was gone by the time the BL1 was delivered to C&EI.
