Yes, Richard. I was. I was in the process of building 41 (which was
going to be the basis of my article) when yours came out. Your article
influenced my model as mine acquired door handles and grab irons on the
short hood.
So I kind of felt that 'it has been done' via your article. The
nail in the coffin was when I contacted Hoquat Hobbies to purchase a
dozen shells. I was going to finalize the article while building a
dozen as a micro-production run. They were to be sold, ready-to-run, at
basically the cost of their parts + $50.00. (About $250 each.)
However, Jeff of Hoquat reported that he was totally sold out and no
more were being made.
Thus the project died and I have a lifetime supply of poling
pockets, headlights, bells, single chime air horns, and some other
parts. (I have toyed with contacting Jeff to ask if I could clone the
shell. I have two that are still virgin so I have a 'master'. I would
even make some alterations to the master to make building the model
easier. But I realized I am working on a book project. I don't have
time for everything I would like to do. So I have done nothing to
further this dream.)

P.S. I contacted Bill and got two extra copies of that issue because of
your article.

Are you not aware that the cover article in Bill's SMG V5#3 (June/July
1997) was just that, written by yours truly?
