I use AutoCAD in a professional setting w/ an Autodesk add-on package
(ADT) and as a matter of course used it to draw my layout and its
myriad of turnouts and crossings. I didn't have to learn any new
commands either. I know that with ADT it is an expensive program and
suspect that core AutoCAD isn't cheap either.

If one of the other CAD or hobby train CAD programs allows you to do
all the things you need to do including custom turnouts, has
templates for stock numbered turnouts, outputs hard copy to scale, is
intuitive to use, and etc., I wouldn't bother with AutoCAD unless you
already know it and can use it without dumping a boxcar load of
dough. I am writing this having never used any other program other
than AutoCAD and based on some of the comments posted previously.

The poll results are in....... To REPLY to the list, use REPLY ALL, to reply
to the sender, use REPLY. I do NOT know if this works on all e-mail software,
but it works on some of the most common ones. For those of you on DIGEST mode,
all REPLY messages go to the list.
