Dear Charles,
I had a discussion with our engineers about this last March during a
trip to China. I told them that the gear arrangement they had designed
made the drive noisy and we wanted to change this to the switcher design
where the gears rotate on the steel axles instead of using the 12 oilite
bearing per F unit. They did not believe it made a difference, so a
test was conducted between a F unit chassis with the switcher gear box
and the standard F unit. They told me they would upgrade the gearbox
tooling at their expense. We will see the new gearboxes in the next run
of F units.
Best regards,
Don
