Be careful of false economies. I doubt too many persons can be more frugal (cheap?) than myself, but we should all be careful about NOT subscribing to a magazine which serves all our interests.
Sure the internet is a great place to do research, have a dialog, and get quick answers. But if we don't support the traditional media for our interests, they may not be around much longer, then there'll be alot of complaining. Besides how do you expect to recruit additional hobbiest from the retiring baby-boomer generation, if there is no Model Railroader Magazine for sale near the Starbucks cafe of the local Barnes & Noble? Research on the internet can be frustrating and often is fragmented. To me, it can't substitute for a good textbook on the subject (such as Stauffer's books on NYCentral), nor the "how to guides" by Kalmbach. At work, I meet alot of youngsters (interns) who don't have a comprehensive understanding of many subjects. THE INTERNET IS A POOR SUBSTITUTE FOR A GOOD TEACHER WITH A LOGICAL LESSON PLAN. Formal print media (Textbooks, Magazines, "How to Guides") tend to be subject to editors prior to publication and more often than not meet my preference for a logical presentation. No such guarantees with the info on the Internet. Just my opinion, Best regards, Dennis Hultay Bloomfield NJ ___________________________________________________________________ I don't subscribe to any of the mags any more . I prefer the active exchange of info on sites like this to seeing something static in print. .....dave To REPLY to the list, use REPLY ALL; to reply to the sender, use REPLY.
