My recollection is that Kemtron was going to import a small S scale
engine about a half-century ago in the late fifties, but did only the
tender and a few other parts.

More recently Northwest Short Line imported an On3 4-4-0 and an On3
2-6-0 that could be modified to resemble a S scale engine. I believe
they were generic "old time" engines that were left deliberately
plain, so that the modeler could add whatever details he wanted. I
know of a 4-4-0 that was converted to S about twenty years ago. One
of the 2-6-0 models today sits on the shelf of my local hobby shop
with a price of around $500 on it.
