In actuality these were part of an Alco-NYC experiment. NYC 1500 was a
2-D-2 passenger loco with a M&S 14x18 prime mover at 900hp, it failed
and was returned to Alco. NYC 1525 was B-B 3 power switcher with a IR
10x12 prime mover at 300hp, it was a success and lasted on the NY City
electrified zone till 1945. the GE 3 power switchers of 1930 were
based on this unit. And last but not least NYC 1550 a 2-D-2 freight
with a IR 14x16 prime mover at 750hp, was also a success and worked the
Put into the 40's before being converted to hump trailer 469 in 1946.
