Re: Mabuchi motors... they are a firm that has been in the motor
business for a loooong time. They are generally considered good quality
motors. Most modelers are familiar with the brand name...they are especially
well liked in RC electric cars and planes ....some of these motors suck the
amps big time and run at 30,000 rpm or more. very high performance...some run
on batteries at 1.5 v and some are set up for gear reduction drives for
props... they can be as small as 1/4 dia or up to ...welll who knows...big.

You might try contacting Mabuchi and see if they have a website reference for
motors?

The real problem is to know what you got and what voltage it is designed to
work on and what application it is intended for...almost all these motors
today are can style and may be expensive rare-earth, corless etc.

If you happen to have an old open frame and/or field wound motor then I can't
help you... the "old" motors are usually to inefficient and to fool with.

For S gauge and if you are looking for DC motors to replace AF there are
several kits -assemblies with and without gear reduction for about $30 to 60
available from a number of hobby shops and listed supply houses for S. This
is what I would recomend you use for an AF remotoring job. Also they make
conversions for most AF diesel engines as well.(a real good thing for the
Baldwin switcher).

If you want to run on AC with a DC motor then add a rectifier per numerous
diagrams available in how to's (various web sites and manuals).

If you need more specific info contact me.
