My impression, which my not be everyone's, is that intermodal is an integral
part of modern railroading. There are only two specifically modern
internmodal cars available today RTR in S, a 5-platform Impack spine car and
a Gunderson Husky Stack. However, with some imagination, time, and
modelling skill, other items can be made. The two flatcar kits from BTS can
be built with trailer hitches and/or container pedestals, for instance.

If you live within driving (or Amtraking) distance of Pontiac Michigan, you
ought to attend the national S convention in August. The people you'll meet
and the goods for sale will answer all your questions and tell you a lot
more about S. See
http://www.smsgtrains.org/ and click Southern Michigan Express at the left.
