Close to 900 of the approx 1,850 active NASG members were recently sent
renewal letters for memberships expiring on June 30th. Renewal checks and
payments are pouring in and I am in the midst of processing the renewals and
mailing out updated membership cards. If you recently sent in your payment to
either me or Mike Shea, you should get your updated card in the mail in the
next couple of weeks.

In response to a renewal notice I sent to a member, I received this letter
and thought I would share it with all of you.

Dear Stan

I have given my 50' S gauge trains and accessories to my nephew's son age
eleven. He was the only one in the family who showed an interest. His father
will be a big help to him as well. I sent the membership form to him. Perhaps
he will sign up.

Last Christmas, for the first time since 1948, I set up my 1934 Winner set.
With a lot of oil, it ran well. Lots of memories. I kept it at a 2' level so
the neighbor's kids could see. Just a loop with a few cardboard houses. They
kept coming back!

I have suggested many times that there should be a few simple layouts at a
low level at shows so children could see how to get started. An 8 or a loop,
a few small buildings, some toy autos, and a working gateman. That's all.

I have enjoyed the membership.

Jack had been an NASG member since 1996.

I am happy to report that 112 new members have joined the NASG since July 1,
2005. Not that I really need any more NASG volunteer work right now :-) but,
if you are not an NASG member, please consider joining. If you were a member
but haven't renewed, come on back; there's always room in the club car for
one more. Membership is, as Alfred E. Neuman would say, "cheap!" at only
$20.00 per year. See http://www.nasg.org/joining_1.html for member benefits
and to access the online registration form.

Thank you.
