Years ago, I think 1981, Mainline Modeler ran a 5-part series on kit 
bashing several Pullman styles from the plastic 12-1 body.  I built a 
12-2 from the SHS 12-1 (not as simple as it sounds!).  As I reacall the 
8-1-2 and 14 section cars were also detailed.  You might use that as a 
start for your idea.  The two keys would be replacement window strips 
and roof top air ducts.  Those elements are the most challenging to 
model.

We looked at the 3-2-Obs Lounge as a project once.  The cars were used 
on NYC, B&O, SP, UP, MILW, SRR and PRR name trains, but we determined 
that S lacked the critical mass to support the car in brass.  That was 
a tough decision since I love passenger trains and heavyweight Pullmans!
