Jack (and others)....

Since San Jose, CA is only a stone's throw from Phoenix, it might be of
interest to know that a model RR convention with S scale participation
usually takes place in February each year -- only 6 weeks away. Click
here for more information: http://www.oscalewest.com/osw2007.html

Now just because the official web site makes no mention of S scale does
not mean there aren't any S activities. After all, "S" stands for
"secret" -- right? And just because S convention car is "TBD" according
to the web site does not mean it won't be ready in just six weeks. And
just because the December 2006 issue of the S GAUGIAN has no mention of
this convention in it's Events column does not mean it won't happen. So
grab a cheap flight on Southwest Airlines and fly on over to San Jose
and pray for a four-day weekend full of S scale activities and layout
visits and clinics and dealer tables and so forth. Eventually, the
Publicity Department will wake up and let us all know about this well
kept secret. At the moment I suppose they are busy discussing what kind
of a convention car will be offered and how to have it completed within
the next six weeks. Be sure to ask about the S banquet. See you there

If flying to California is not your cup of tea, drive to Reno, NV and
take AMTRAK to San Francisco and then take the commuter train down to
Santa Clara, CA. Enjoy the snow covered Sierra Nevada mountains which
have been touted as the most scenic mountain RR trip in the nation. I'm
sure the Colorado folks might think otherwise, but, regardless, it is a
really neat train ride -- especially in the winter.

Cheers...Ed L.
