Gentlemen,

You forgot that the difference between the 40 and 42 inch wheels is
one inch on the radius, or 1/64" difference on the height of the
locomotive from the railhead.  I will go to great lengths for
accuracy, but sometimes you have to go with what is easiest.  But if
you want to got with temporary spacers, make them one scale inch, not two.

BTW, I had some 53" scale wheels made for my AEM7 and they were made
by a local machine shop.
