FWIW,
It would seem to me, if you are going to hand lay switches, the Fast Track 
jigs seem to make the most sense. I have NOT used them myself, but they seem 
to to be well designed. They even offer a frog point assembly jig. Since 
most people need more then one turnout, they would seem to be the worth the 
cost.
