Actually, Larry, according to GE documents, the units could develop
26,400 lbs at 2.6 MPH for ten minutes. Their continuous rating was
13,000 lbs at 7.1 MPH. By the time they got up to their maximum speed
of 35 MPH, they were down to only about 2,500 lbs TE. Now, how many
tons? GE states that the locomotives could handle 2,040 tons
(including the locomotive's weight) at 5 MPH on the level. 35 cars
would be 57 tons per car, so I would say that Mr Jackman's claims are
completely in line with GE's own estimates.
If anyone wants more data or specs on the GE 44 tonner, feel free to
ask.
